PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Water hyacinth is menace to aquatic life. Instead of just sitting back and letting this environmental challenge continue, women will be trained to convert this nightmare into a decent source of income. We will offer a three months training course with nine months of close mentorship on conversion of water hyacinth into valuable products, such as seats . We sincerely asking for your support with resources and finances to make the skills training a possibility, as well as the acquiring of machines for extracting hyacinth. Offering sex for fish, has been a major challenge, that has led to an increase in sexual related illnesses and death among the women who do not have resources and know how to fish for themselves.

Project Objectives

  • 1. To increase decent source of income for women using water hyacinth

ABOUT WANAWAKE WAVUVI (WA-WA KENYA)

At the age of 12, both of my parents died of HIV related conditions. My mother used to sell fish in order to take care of us and since we were poor and she couldn't raise capital for the business, she engaged into 'sex for fish' practices so as to secure the dwindling catch of fish. This is how she contracted HIV and both died. Interestingly, as my mother enrolled for medication, my father did not open up and he died in denial instead, he became a perennial drunkard and a violent man, only when he was drunk he could talk about his ill health condition. Today, we still have many like my dad.
